i really really love this piece, and i have two more vintage scissors already covered with fabric that are waiting to be framed (it's slightly addictive! perfect for when you feel like spacing out on something detail-oriented). i just put this one up in my shop here. as i was covering these i was thinking about what they might have made in their lifetime. maybe baby clothes or a quilt or doll clothes or curtains or pillow cases or even a wedding dress... what stories it could tell i'm sure!

i'll post the others as i finish them. it's hot and sunny here today, which is ok ~ i'm enjoying every last day of summer we get! hope you're enjoying today as well.

i'm waiting for some glue to dry in a pretty new mixed media piece i'm very excited about (hopefully will be sharing tomorrow!), so i thought i'd do a little post. that top photo is from the hoyt arboretum (appropriate for the first day of september, no? fall will be here soon!), and that gorgeous vintage bird box is my latest thrifty find ~ isn't it amazing? i just love to look at it...

well i had a crazy day at work today, i have a big headache and it's way too hot, but i did a little mushroom & moss vintage shop update (check out this amazing thermos and lunch box!) and now i'm going to reward myself with ice cream (coffee with slivered almonds, yum).

i also wanted to share my latest thrifty find ~ this amazing vintage fisher price "change a tune" piano. so freaking cute!!! it'll probably go up in my shop at some point, but for now i just like to look at it :)

went to a few estate sales yesterday morning and listed some of my fun finds in my mushroom & moss vintage shop (including a few things i'd been holding out on listing ~ sometimes i just need some time before i can let them go :)

i also found a bag full of the sweetest little birthday cake decorations. i don't know what it is but i just *love* old boxes of birthday candles. they make me so happy! hm, that might explain why i dreamed about a ginormous sheet cake last night. sadly i woke up before i got to eat any. you can guess what i'll be doing today!!

i have today off and a to-do list a mile long, but it's overcast and lovely out and i had delicious homemade granola for breakfast so i'm excited to get this day started. just a few things to mention ~

~ i did a guest post for summer on design is mine of my vintage back-to-school wish list.

~ check out these pretty vintage-map covered 12 things i love about you mini books custom order i made recently. i might make some of these to sell, they're so lovely!

~ i held a crafty girl's night at the park last night ~ the plan was to make some amazing wire creations like these or these (gah! so gorgeous) but debbie and amy warned me and they were right: wire is impossible!!! so instead we brought our favorite crafty/inspirational books and magazines (brittany brought a stack of gorgeous uppercase magazines, i didn't want to give them back to her!) and chatted and ate snacks. it was such a lovely night!! (if you live in portland and want to join us sometime just let me know. we had 3 new girls last night and they were lovely!)

~ i think that's it for now. that pretty polaroid is of the sunset the other night. my sweetie and i went to the top of an empty parking garage to get the perfect shot. i just added it to my shop here. hope you're having a great week!

happy birthday to my awesome sister esther today! i get to go visit her (and her sweet family and her new house) in the desert next month and i can't wait. isn't it amazing to watch your siblings grow up? when you're younger you never even think about what they'll be like as adults, so it's pretty fascinating to see it happen. especially when they're as strong, creative, thoughtful and beautiful as esther. i love you es!!

today is full of crafting, cleaning, photographing new vintage treasures and trying to stay cool (highs in the 90s for the next 5 days, and no air conditioning! might have to take a trip to the coast tomorrow). and being grateful for drinkable tap water ~ sending tons of love to my family and friends in my flooded hometown.

chelsea's gorgeous post about chloe aftel's beautiful polaroid wedding photos reminded me that i never blogged about my friend jen's wedding in april to her sweetheart pete. she asked me to take pictures with my trusty little sx-70 and i was more than happy to (plus she paid me in film!). there was the sweetest little park right across the street from the courthouse which was in full bloom. and how cute are they?!? so much fun.

happy monday! for some reason lately the mornings here in portland have been chilly and overcast while the afternoons are sunny and hot. it's starting to grow on me now that i've figured out how to dress for it (layers!).

just a few things this morning: my mushroom & moss vintage shop is participating in poppytalk's back to school market that started today! you can see my table here. i'll be adding even more fun school-themed vintage stuff in a week or two.

also, here's the project wedding article chelsea did with the photo shoot we did together (and some more shots here). it was so much fun, i love when online friends become real life friends :)

last night my boyfriend jeremy convinced me to go to the county fair (despite growing up in iowa i am *not* a fan of the fair) where we watched a crazy demolition derby and ate snow cones and i must admit, it was so much fun. and it felt like summer.

spent a pretty, foggy morning at the big barn house flea market up near battle ground, washington this morning. i'd read about the amazing sale in flea market style magazine (so great, grab a copy if you can find one!) and i wasn't disappointed. if you ever get the chance to, go check it out! (and don't miss the vintage gathering down the street!)

remember this crazy post about the poem i had published in sassy magazine about a boy that killed himself a few years later? and remember after 17 years i finally found the poem on a blog post tavi wrote? well guess what sweet miss tavi did - she mailed me the sassy with my poem in it!!!! can you believe it? i can't. no seriously, it's blowing my mind right now. i thought this story couldn't get any stranger, and now here's my poem staring up at me from my lap.

thank you tavi, and thanks to everyone who read and commented or emailed or talked to me in person. you guys rock.

that top pic is of some flowers (given to me on my birthday by some great friends) in my favorite vintage jar ~ it's for sale in my shop. the second pic is by my talented friend chelsea. it's an outtake from a photo shoot we did yesterday ~ i got to play the brushing bride three times! i'll let you know when the rest of the photos are up. this week is a busy one: i'm participating in the poppytalk back to school market starting aug. 2nd so i need to pull out all the fun vintage ledgers, typewriters, books and other school-themed stuff i have and clean them up, take photos and get them listed at my mushroom & moss vintage shop. plus my friend jen and i are combining our spaces at found on fremont into one mega-super space of vintage awesomeness ~ if you're in portland check it out starting friday! hope you're having a productive week :)
