on the flip side:

+ the gorgeous, ginormous mimosa tree in bloom a few blocks away
+ a good laugh (aka seeing eddie izzard live)
+ green smoothies don't have to be chewed (did i mention the pain?!?)
+ finally got to meet abby yesterday
+ cute new shoes
the tune was tuned to find you

i realized i never updated on my 30 day green smoothie challenge results. it's been about 45 days of green smoothies (with about a week's worth of missed days) and i gotta say i am *really* loving them. my original reasons were that i was tired of carbs/sugar for breakfast (sorry cereal) plus it's farmers market season so there's easy access to tons of delicious fruits & veggies right now. i was worried that i'd get bored with a smoothie every single morning, but amazingly i haven't. each smoothie is pretty different, and i also added two fried eggs (one yolk) on the side (love that sweet/salty combo!) for some variety.

so far i've definitely noticed i've had more energy, been sleeping better (straight through the night), totally craving fresh fruits and veggies more and (drumroll) craving sweets less, which blows my mind. i literally used to have ice cream every night before bed, and two weeks into the smoothies i noticed i hadn't eaten ice cream once. not that i don't crave sweets at all, i just crave them *a lot* less. so for me i can see this becoming a long-term thing. i *love* consuming 5 servings of fruits/veggies before 10am, stocking up at the farmers markets and coming up with yummy combinations (fyi for greens i've been using spinach, arugula, broccoli, butter leaf and romaine lettuce).

great post about smoothie boosts here and also victoria boutenko's green for life book is a really informative, quick read (her website here).

i feel a million arms around me

suzanne over at S.HOPtalk did the sweetest post about little old me. i love to see how other people arrange my photos, for some reason they always look so much better to me. her readers get a discount at my shop so be sure to check it out!

also, i realized i never showed these cute postcards that go out with every order. they're blank on the back (except for my logo). just a little thank you to my wonderful customers :)

two more things: snapfish is having a sale (until july 12th) for up to 50 4x6 prints for $.01 each (coupon code JUL4PENNY08). i use them all the time and have been really happy with their stuff.

#2 - the talented mr. stuart davis is touring the midwest starting next week (with a quick detour to nyc) so if he's in your area make sure to check him out, i promise you won't regret it (and if for some crazy reason you don't like his music, he gives really good hugs :)

owl eyes her sun will rise and light the land

new found paper journals are up! and an old page from my barcelona journal last summer (of course i managed to find a photobooth!).

i guess i should be grateful this summer isn't as insane as last year (moving 1800 miles, then two weeks later taking off for europe - by the time we finally came back i'd forgotten everything i'd figured out about getting around portland!), but i am missing traveling right about now...

this summer we're helping our bestest friends kris and tim move up from eugene (they followed us out from iowa last fall). i'm thinking it was both a blessing and a curse that matt and i had three days total to find somewhere to live (blessing: found the exact right place for us [at the very last minute of course]. curse: had to pay two months extra rent, ridiculously stressful) but i'm definitely jealous they get *months* to check out neighborhoods, tour places, etc. plus the benefit of our expertise (which consists of "close to cupcakes" and "not close to cupcakes" ;)

anyway, enough rambling for now. time to get this week started!

all the trees of the field will clap their hands

recovering from a crazy fun busy weekend (thank goodness for lazy sundays). lots of yummy food, gorgeous weather and blowing stuff up. thanks founding fathers!

also got a chance to do some guerrilla art (shhh). i mean if i *was* going to do some guerrilla art it might look like this: buy old doilies from the thrift store, dye them bright colors, tie them to random tree branches around the city. nothing wrong with spreading a little lovliness around, eh?
(inspired by this and of course this :)

oh! got some found paper journals back from the binders so i'll be putting those up in my shop tomorrow morning (10am pacific time).

now time to get caught up on everything i've been neglecting for the last few days. hope you had a fun weekend!

just pretend that you and i belong here

so i now have purple hair. and not on purpose. but i'm actually really liking it. i was aiming for "dark burgundy" but it ended up "dark purple with a hint of bubblegum pink in the sun." kinda fun, in a definitely-not-burgundy kinda way. plus it's been every other color (literally) so why not.

once after coloring my hair green (ah, good ol' manic panic) i couldn't get all the dye off my hands and after handling my contacts... i ended up with green eyes for a week.

just put this new mixed media piece up in my shop, full of pinecone-y goodness (my favorite). i love it and will be sad to see it go but i guess that's what i do - make stuff i love then pass it on. took a batch of found paper journals to the binders today, can't wait to get those up. they seriously are so amazing in person, i wish i could pass one around so everyone could see. 85+ pages, every single one different from the rest. they're a lot of work but totally worth it.

hope you're having a productive week so far!

finding all my previous motives growing increasingly unclear

i miss fireflies. i do. we were playing badminton the other night and i kept looking for them out of the corner of my eye. i also miss thunderstorms. i can count on one hand the number of times i've heard thunder since we moved here last summer. what i don't miss is having the air conditioning on all day and only being able to open the windows at night. we leave our windows open 24/7 here (even when it rains - it almost always falls straight down!) and i can also count on one hand how many mosquitoes i've seen here (i don't think i've gotten bit once). i don't miss having to worry about tornadoes when the sky starts to look freaky. i don't miss humidity. i do miss my family, sunday dinner at my parent's, jumping on the trampoline with my niece and playing games in the living room. yep, definitely miss that.

you take me the way i am

and the winner is... becky! who has never been to europe but it's very high on her life goal's list. i went for the first time last year and it was worth the wait, such amazing memories. email me your address becky so i can send you your new journal. hey, maybe you can even use it when you to go europe for the first time like i did! ;)

thank you guys so much for participating in this crazy blogging week with me, for sticking around and giving me a chance to get to know you better. i'm hoping to continue blogging regularly (ideally it'll encourage me to create every day and share that with you), so keep those comments coming, it means so much to know someone's out there!

so i had a great birthday full of my favorite things: taking pictures (got a diana and this - woot!), delicious veggie food and spending time with family (in person and via phone). a lovely day indeed.

i wanted to re-post something i wrote for my 30th birthday because it's something that i still feel so strongly about, plus when i read it i just feel... better. maybe it'll strike a chord with you too.

"here is what i have learned in my 30 years (which isn't much but it might be enough):

#1) everything is perfect. including you. you are perfect. right now. exactly how you are, you're perfect. close your eyes. breathe in. that air? perfect. that sound? perfect. your greasy hair and dry feet and tummy roll and hairy legs are perfect. i'm not kidding. it's all perfect.

#2) you know that place you thought you were trying to get to this whole time? the destination that made you feel guilty and stressed and hurried and not good enough? the place that would suddenly appear when you had enough or were enough? you're there! you made it! it was here, this whole time! so you can stop trying so hard, stop rushing and yelling and getting upset and putting others down. stop judging, stop regretting, stop worrying, stop waiting, stop looking back, stop wishing, stop planning, you're here now. and it's perfect. did i mention that already? it's true. you're here and everything is perfect, including you.

and i'm 30 now, i feel old and young and loved and lonely and selfish and sweaty and grateful and tired and creative and content and i'm here. and i'm perfect too."

and now i'm 32 and i feel exhausted and inspired and gangly and graceful and aloof and radiant and embraced and ignored and unsure and anxious and absolutely ready. and still perfectly perfect.

the world was moving she was right there with it

here we go!

5. during a choir concert in eighth grade (in front of hundreds of people) my baby brother came up and gave me a big hug around my legs. i was so embarrassed i whispered to him "if you go sit back down i'll give you some ice cream!" it didn't work.

4. my date for senior prom wore a purple tux and had blue hair and instead of going to after prom we watched cheech & chong in his basement.

3. i never got into the new kids (how weird is it that they're touring again??) but i loved milli vanilli (even after they were outed as fakes)

2. i had a tongue stud for five years until i swallowed it the week before i got married and decided maybe it was a sign i was too old. a year later i pierced my nose

and the last random thing about me:

1. i learned to walk ten minutes after i crawled for the first time. my parents kept me in a walker because their floor was concrete, so by the time i figured out how to crawl i already had the walking thing down.

whew! thanks so much for sticking around for this crazy week of blogging, and for all the comments, i've seriously loved learning so much about you guys. don't forget if you haven't yet to leave a random fact about yourself so you're entered in the drawing tomorrow. until then... see you on my birthday! :)
